The Tall Ships Races are events involving sail training vessels, in which trainee sailors join the crews.
Whether you are complete beginner or a sailing enthusiast, take up the challenge and join the crew on a sea leg of the Tall Ships Races 2027, where you can sail aboard vessels of all categories, discover new horizons and experience unforgettable moments with other young people from all over the world of the same age (from 15 to 25 years old on 31 December of the year of the event).
Bordeaux Métropole, together with its partners, will be offering the opportunity to become a trainee sailor between Bordeaux and A Coruña in Spain, in the magnificent region of Galicia, home to Santiago de Compostela (around eight days of adventure at sea, from 10 to 18 July 2027).
Under the crew’s responsibility, these trainee sailors will be full members of the crew. Their main duties will include:
- Taking part in manoeuvres (hoisting and lowering sails, for example).
- Standing watch (working in rotating shifts to ensure round-the-clock sailing)
- Assisting the crew with ship maintenance
- Participating in life on board: cooking, cleaning, etc.
